First off, congratulations on making a step towards including more fruits and vegetables in your diet! Going plant-based has many benefits for overall wellness. With that in mind, it is important to make sure you are replacing meat, poultry, and other animal products adequately.

Here are some tips to make sure you are getting all your nutrients and feeling satisfied while on a plant-based diet!

  1. Include high-quality complete protein sources like tofu, tempeh, seitan, and edamame. Eating 20-30g of protein per meal will help keep you energized.

  2. Make healthy fats like nut butters, hemp, flax, and avocados a part of your diet. Often, those who go plant-based tend to go overboard on their carbohydrate consumption. Fats are great for balancing your blood sugars and avoiding that mid-day crash.

  3. Fiber. Contrary to popular belief, carbohydrates are a part of living a healthy balanced lifestyle. Choose starches like sprouted bread, quinoa, brown rice, and potatoes over refined grains to help you avoid that hangry feeling that often times leads to overeating.
