Healthy Airport Snacks

Updated: Feb 10

It's no secret that when it comes to traveling, it can be difficult to find healthy snacks at the airport.

My number one tip when it comes to traveling is to plan ahead rather than relying on restaurants or the snacks provided by the airline to fit your dietary requirements.

I recently flew on a commercial flight and the snacks provided included muffins, chips, cookies, and candy such as gummy bears, and chocolate. While these are fine to have on occasion in an otherwise overall healthy diet, most of these snacks are filled with sodium, inflammatory oils, and added sugar that can contribute to feelings of bloating and inflammation. This is probably not how you would like to feel while on your vacation.

Keeping this in mind, I wanted to share three of my favorite healthy snacks or " my insurance" that I like to stock up on while traveling.

Brad's Crunchy Kale Chips

These Kale chips not only taste great, but they provide 2 servings of veggies in just one bag! Not only this but it is also packed with fiber and protein for staying power.

Protein bars/ Protein Shakes

Finding balanced meals, especially when you are plant-based, can be challenging while traveling. I like to take either a protein bar or a protein shake like this one to ensure I am keeping my blood sugars consistent and hitting my protein goals for the day.

Dried fruits

If you have a sweet tooth, this one is for you. Fresh fruits are often not found or allowed into the airport. Dried fruit is shelf-stable and will still provide the fiber and micronutrients as a fresh fruit would. Be sure to look for one with no added sugar.

If you find yourself at the airport and you haven't planned ahead, you can still find options like nuts, seeds, yogurt, sandwiches, and even oatmeal. Be mindful of nutrition labels and avoid the high sodium and added sugars whenever possible.

Happy traveling!
