Start the New Year Right!
How do you actually go about losing weight sustainably? Here are a few places to start if weight loss is one of your goals this year!
--
1. Drink water. Staying hydrated is essential for our bodies to function optimally. Hydration can come from many sources such as water, water infused with fruits or lemon, tea, and even coffee. Make it fun by utilizing a nice water bottle to help keep track of how much you are consuming.
2. Daily movement. Find movement that feels good for you and be consistent with it! Some examples are walking, pilates, yoga, swimming, and weight training. A good goal is to aim for 30 minutes of physical activity per day.
3. Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Instead of focusing on what you need to eliminate from your diet, think about where you can add more nutrition. Add a banana or berries to your breakfast, a side of greens at lunch, or some roasted veggies with dinner.
4. Sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Similar to a morning routine, create a wind-down routine for yourself. Limit scrolling on your phone for at least 2 hours before bedtime and avoid any heavy meals 3-4 hours before heading to sleep. Set a bedtime to hold yourself accountable and clock in those hours of rest!
5. Protein. Make an effort to consume a protein source at each meal. Protein is key, especially when you have a weight loss goal, as it will help you to retain muscle mass and provide satiety. Examples include chicken, fish, meat, eggs, tofu, and tempeh. 6. Skip the FAD diets and avoid yo-yo dieting. The way to lose weight and keep it off for good is by maintaining sustainable nutrition habits. Ask yourself, is it even worth it to try the new "FAD diet" if you don't see yourself eating this way for the rest of your life? Remember to focus on what feels good for YOU and avoid comparing yourself to others. We are all unique. Even if we all exercised and ate the same, our bodies would still look different.
